The Childrens Summer Theater is presenting a production of “The Little Mermaid” at the Mesquite Community Theater this weekend on June 16-17. Evening showtimes are at 7 pm each night, with a matinee performance on June 17 at 2 pm.
The wonderfully costumed childrens’ production is directed by Wende Wolf Killinger, with the part of Prince Eric being played by AJ Martin, and Ariel played Briella Wundenli.
“There are thirty kids in the cast,” said Killinger last week during an interview with The Progress. “Many are veteran student actors from prior years. Each year we expect more of the participants; and each year they meet our expectations.”
The entire cast in this production is made up of local youth in the age groups between 6th and 12th grade.
“We work this age group hard,” Killinger said. “We rehearse six hours per day for ten days. The kids have to be dedicated.”
There are lots of costume changes in this production. costumes are made locally by Mattie Bartolyn and Rachel Washington. The project kept the ladies very busy.
It takes a large theatre tech crew to put these plays on as well. The underwater background and lighting are sure to add to the enthusiasm these student actors portray.
Tickets for the show are on sale now. The cost is $16 Per Adult and $12 for children 17 and younger. Tickets are available for purchased at MCTNV.com.
