Lt. Colonel David Flippo, (USAF Ret) has already jumped in the ring for Nevada Congressional Seat 4, opposing incumbent Rep. Steven Horsford. Flippos made a meet and greet appearance in Mesquite at Scotties Restaurant at Falcon Ridge Golf Course on Monday, June 5.
Local resident and former Congressman Cresent Hardy introduced Flippo to the group that was gathered and endorsed his run for Congress.
“We need a conservative to represent Congressional District 4 (CD4) instead of the liberal-voting Horsford,” Hardy said. “Flippo is experienced in national security, finances, and energy needs from his military service and from owning his own businesses.”
Flippo told the audience he enlisted in the Air Force and got his commissions later. He lives in Las Vegas and has been married for forty years.
He introduced a number of people with him who are helping with his campaign. He also mentioned that former CD4 candidate Sam Peters is also helping with his campaign.
Flippo has a background in maintenance and logistics including commanding the evacuation of the Kurds from Northern Iraq to Guam.
Later he was put on the Inspecter General Team and did national security inspections in all the NATO Nations.
After retiring, he worked for BP Oil in Alaska, commuting from his Las Vegas home. He now owns Hobby Town in St George and a financial business in Las Vegas.
“I am running because we need a representative that is not so far left,” Flippo said. “Even some Nevada Democrats do not agree with Horsford’s voting habits.”
Flippo went on to say we need a strong national security policy to deal with unfriendly nations like China, Russia, Ukraine, North Korea and Iran.
“We don’t need a 2 or 3 wars at -a-time policy,” he said. “We can’t be secure with an open border immigration policy.”
Flippo claimed that Horsford sits on the immigration committee, yet has not been to the border since 2014. “What does that tell you?” he asked.
Flippo believes states should be deciding energy policy for themselves to allow them to utilize all forms of energy where they work.
“I looked at what problems America and Nevada will be facing in 2024 when I was asked to run,” Flippo said. “National Security will be a big issue. Energy is going to be an issue and the economy will be an issue. Those are the three skill sets I have. So I decided to try and be one of the 435 and serve my country.”
Flippo has signed the 3-term limit pledge. He explained his belief that anything beyond that creates a “swamp in Washington.”
Flippo urged the audience to stay engaged, helping to register voters. “We must play by the Democrat rules, and use mail-in-ballots to our advantage, legally of course, and vote early,” he said.
