OBITUARY: Patricia Jones Davis

Patricia Jones Davis

Patricia Jean Herring Jones Davis

Patricia Jean Herring Jones Davis, age 80, passed away June 7, 2023 in Milton-Freewater, OR.
She was born November 29, 1942, in Pendleton, OR to Glendon Terrace Herring and Margaret Tanner.

After completing her education and graduating from Moapa Valley High School (MVHS), she moved to Memphis, TN to live with her Aunt Lenore Kimble, whom she admired and adored dearly.

It was there in Memphis that she met and married Roy Gene Jones. Roy was stationed at this location serving in the United States Navy. Roy and Patricia married on March 17, 1961. Together they were blessed with 7 children. Patricia’s fantasy her entire life was to be a mother.

Patricia and her entire family ended up settling in Alamo, NV in 1965, where they secured a home for 8 years. It was there in this small community that she had a love for the valley. She was very involved with her babies. By hand she washed 8 dozen cloth diapers at a time, assuring they were always very white. She was a Supermom. Her love for dance became a passion after attending MVHS as a Debonette, so she started a young dance troop at the school in Alamo.

In 1973 she decided to move her family nearer to her father Glendon, in Hermiston, OR. It was there all her children attended most of their childhood education. She became very busy while her children were all very involved in afterschool sports and church activities.

She loved and appreciated the beauty in Oregon, often going on outings to the beautiful Blue Mountains with her family; hiking and collecting wood to warm their home in the winters. She would also gather wild berries, (huckle-berry and blackberry), take them home to freeze, and make jams, jellies, and juice.

As her children grew, she knew it was vital, having so many mouths to feed, that she learned gardening and how to raise farm animals. Although her children became very attached to the animals, they eventually understood which ones were there to help provide food for their family.

She attended floral design school in Portland, and Blue Mountain Community College earning a degree in accounting. She opened and operated a successful flower shop. She loved to create beautiful designs for special occasions.

In 1980 Roy’s employment would move them back to Nevada.
Her children were grown and she was now divorced, she decided to move to Colorado to be nearer to some of her children.

In 2015 she knew that her heart belonged home, in Oregon, to live out the remainder of her life peacefully surrounded by the beautiful countryside and her children.

Patricia is survived by her Aunt Lenore Tanner-Kimble; brothers: William (Dana) Herring, Jim Perkins, and Michael Perkins; sister Kathy Womack; sons: Nick (Tammie) Jones and Jason Jones; daughters: Margaret (Burns) Chamberlain, and Tresa (Charlie) Lasike; 31 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Her glorious reunion will include her parents, Glendon Terrace Herring and Margaret Tanner-Perkins; brothers: Marvin Herring, and Terry Herring; sons: Michael Gene Jones, Matthew Roy Jones, and Jeffery Todd Jones; and grandchildren: Ashley Adele Jones and Bo Jones.

A Memorial Service will be held June 17, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 226 W. Thomas, Overton, NV.

Church service July 1, 2023 at10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Milton-Freewater, OR. Burial to follow in Weston, OR.

Patricia was one of the strongest , most resilient humans I have been blessed to call my friend. Catching up with her this past year was pure joy. She will be missed, but never forgotten. RIP Pat.

I will remember the times we spent in school together. I have thought of Patti as the big sister I never had. I always looked up to her. My prayers are with all of her family and tell them to remember all the good times they had with their mother. Love you lots, your cousin.

I contacted Pattty in regards to our upcoming reunion with all those who attended MVHS during the 60’s and before. She was already in hospice care. I know she is glad to be through this great trial of pain and suffering! She said that she will always be thankful for the wonderful years that they spent in Moapa Valley, and all the wonderful memories that linger from them.
Patty mothered and cared for all of the children in our neighborhood, on Alma Street, in Overton. Everyone that knew her loved and adored her!! What a truly gorgeous lady! She only did good and noble things! We have been blessed to be in her presence.
Later, our Uncle, Marion “Long John” Perkins, married Patty’s mother, Margaret, making us what the Valley always referred to as “kissing cousins.” That is, people related by marriage, only. We will see you on the other side of the veil, dear cousin!!
We all love you! From Loreena (Lori Perkins) Winsor Pedersen.

Saddened to learn of Patty’s illness and passing. We grew up friends, neighbors and classmates at MVHS and she was always a kind and thoughtful friend and neighbor. She made our lives better just knowing her gentle soul and our family conveys our condolences and love for Patty and her family. Roger and Earlene

  5. Patti was a special friend to my mother. I can remember the trips from Nevada to Hermiston. I fell in love with her beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. A very beautiful, elegant, special and loving lady.
