New Trash Service Coming For M.V. Residents

Republic Services will be bringing curbside bulk trash pickup service to Moapa Valley this fall.

Republic Services is going to begin offering curbside bulk trash pickup in the Moapa Valley communities this fall. The new service, which is expected to be effective on October 1 will come at no additional cost to local Republic Service customers.

The monthly pick up date; which has been taking place on the first Saturday of each month at the Republic Convenience Center on Waterline Road just north of Logandale; will still continue to be held.

The new bulk pickup service is intended to make it more convenient and timely for customers to dispose of certain bulk items.

A bulk item is anything less than 50 lbs and under 6 feet in length that does not fit inside the supplied trash carts. After Oct. 1, these items can be placed next to the trash bin on the regular trash service day.

Palm fronds are considered to be a bulk item, but would need to be tied up and neatly placed at the curb, next to the trash bins, for pick up.

Many household appliances and other items that do not fit in the trash bins are also considered bulk items and will be collected on the regularly scheduled dates. However, refrigerators and air conditioning units are considered hazardous waste due to the freon contained in them. These cannot be picked up by Republic Services.

This new bulk pickup service is expected to reduce wait times on the monthly pickup dates at the Convenience Center. It will also assist customers who may not have a safe means of transporting the bulk items to the Convenience Center for the monthly pickup.

However, if customers prefer to deliver their bulk items to the Convenience Center on the scheduled date, instead of leaving them at curbside for pickup, that service will still be offered. Republic Services officials advise that these customers should tarp their loads appropriately during transport.

Recycling service will continue to be provided according to current schedules.
Items appropriate for recycle bins include paper, plastic containers, glass items and metal cans and containers.

Items that should NOT be placed in a recycle bin include diapers, garden hoses, plastic shopping bags, shoes or clothing, food waste and yard waste.

More information about recycling is available at recyclingsimplified.com.

For customers who find themselves needing a third cart for trash, Republic Services will provide a third cart free of charge. A fourth cart is also available for an additional fee. For more information or to request additional carts, call 702-735-5151.
