Be there or be square!
The Mesquite Recreation Center Gym will be the scene for the “cool crowd” on Saturday, Nov. 11, Veterans Day, from 2-5 pm. It is where the 4th Annual Veterans Party will be held, which this year is planned to be a 1950s-style Sock Hop.

Members of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), led by committee chair Cindi Condi, has been working hard with their partners, The Mesquite Poker Boys, to make this event exciting while raising money for the Mesquite Veterans Center.

The Sock Hop event will precede the closing ceremony of 1,000 Flags of Mesquite event, which will be held on the Rec Center west field at 6 pm.

The affair has a full agenda planned, with plenty of entertainment and dancing. Music will be provided by the Dry Heat Jazz Band, the Mesquite Café Blues Band, ‘50s dance music by DJ Vantage, Lifelong Dancers and PJ Anderson as Elvis in Jailhouse Rock.

This event has drawn many local sponsors willing to support the local veterans center.
Attendees are encouraged to dress in 1950s attire, including socks or soft-soled shoes.

“Everyone should come, have some fun and donate to our Veterans Center,” said poker boy Larry LeMieux. “Then we will honor our veterans by attending the 1,000 flags closing ceremony.”

Tickets to the sock hop will be $8 each. Children under 12 get in free of charge.
