LETTER: A view of GOP presidential hopefuls

Only God is worthy of faith or trust. ALL human institutions are worthy of skepticism. Those we choose to preserve, protect and defend truth and our lives and property deserve the severest scrutiny.
Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis. Whom do we choose?

Trump set out to be in business. He was educated at Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He made serious money in the real world where you either perform or you die.

His success was won in New York and New Jersey, two of the most corrupt places to operate in the country. He is familiar with bribing politicians, bureaucrats, unions and other corrupt practices. If he has participated, he knows exactly how it works. If he has not participated, he knows exactly how it works.

He was a Democrat most of his life. He has supported abortion. He is not a conservative. He has contributed to progressive candidates and causes. He supported Anthony Fauci. He has a monumental ego. I do not like listening to him speak. I do not personally like him.
But “perfection is the enemy of the good.”

Trump made us energy independent and dramatically improved the security of our border in a very short period of time. He vastly improved our trade deficits with China. He caused North Korea and the world to respect America. He restored hope for many in this country. He exposed the corruption in the entire news, financial, judicial, governmental, educational, military, industrial, political system.

He applied a business mentality to the moribund function of government. He is more about action and results than anything else. He keeps promises.

I admire Donald Trump’s energy vision and accomplishments. He walked into The Washington swamp thinking there were a few problems he could fix without recognizing that the rot was to the core. The people who we have trusted to operate our government have gone way out of control.
I do not know where his heart and loyalties lie. He is either a knight in shining armor or a Trojan horse.

On the other hand, Ron DeSantis set out to be in politics. He graduated from prestigious Yale University and Harvard Law School. He served as an attorney in the US Navy. He has done a more than stellar job as governor of Florida. He is personable and likeable. He has done in Florida what I think Trump was trying to do with the rest of the country.

I do not like his close ties with the Bush family who I believe are charter members of the cabal that is destroying America. In my opinion, his education at Yale and Harvard Law are 2.9 strikes against him.

If he had supported Trump, I would respect him more. There will be plenty left to do saving this country when Trump is termed out and DeSantis is just the man to spend 8 more years doing the job. Instead he runs now.

I suspect it is at the bidding of his Bush allies who want revenge against Trump for dissing Jeb and ruining the dynasty.

That; together with his ambition to politics, cabal-approved resume and associations; shape my conclusions and cause me to distrust him more than I distrust Trump.

  1. Don’t tell me Mr. Black. You are a regular Fox News watcher. Everything you said about Trump’s accomplishments are pure fiction. For example, the rest of the world laughed at us during Trump’s term. He did nothing about infrastructure, health care, the deficit, and trashed our economy which is typical for a Republican president. He started out doing the right thing about Covid but ended up killing thousands of people by lying about the seriousness of Covid. And then came 1/6, the lowest point in our history since the Civil War. The liar in Chief tried to overthrow our government. Very presidential. He did everything Putin wanted. He cast doubt on our democratic institutions, our courts, our law enforcement agencies, NATO, and anything else that made us a great country. His legacy as the worst president in history is written in stone.

Mr. Black, do you know what fascism is? Remember Hitler and Mussolini? They were fascists. They hated liberals, the press, academics, teachers, gays, as well as Jews and people of color. Sound familiar? They also took retribution on their enemies, people who dared criticize them. Remember the camps? Trump came out yesterday and promised retribution, camps, and political trials for his political enemies. Trump is telling us he is a fascist. Believe him. For once in his life, he is telling us the truth.

  2. The trouble with “running the government like a business” is that the fundamental goal of government is different than the fundamental goal of business.

It is adorable that anyone thinks the world respects America thanks to Trump. The world laughed at the orange, spoiled baby, desperately pretending to be a leader, and by extension at America.

Id never have thought the Republican party, the party of Ronald “better dead than red” Reagan would so eagerly hold the door open for an aspiring dictator with visions of leading a fascist state.

  3. Only God may be worthy but Trump would pretend to be his faithful buddy then stab him in the back if it helped Trump. Like the other comment said, Trump admires Adolph Hitler and the way he ran Germany. Trumps Make America Great Again slogan came straight from Hitler’s Make Germany Great Again slogan. But, enough with the facts.
A vote for Trump would mean endless division, violence, hate and sorrow for this country. Trump checks every single box in the clinical definition of a dangerous psychopath. Every single box! And his past actions prove it. If you are a true Republican and want the party to succeed, you definitely don’t want to vote for Trump. He is a mean, vindictive, revenge filled child who will destroy the party. Trump is for Trump alone. Do your homework, a psychopath is a polished liar who has a long history of feelings of self entitlement, lack of remorse and empathy, lack of impulse control and purposely ignoring the laws of society be it doesn’t apply to them. Psychopaths are very dangerous, gather other psychopaths to be close to them and will turn on you in an instant. Even God would cringe at the mention of a vote for Trump.

If you are truly a good Republican and believe in our platform and our values and what to see the party succeed, the very worst thing you could do is vote for Trump. Look at what he has done to his own staff, Mark Meadows, Bill Barr, Gen. Matthis, Nikki Haley, Rex Tillerson, Betsy DeVos and on and on), throw them all under the bus for simply disagreeing with him. Trump practically destroyed our party and will do it again, only worse. He is out for only one thing – himself. He is a conman and a fraud. If you find yourself over-identifying Trump as a true Republican, you are just lying to yourself. Consider this, for all the criminal activities Trump got HIMSELF into, he is using donor funds, YOUR MONEY, to pay his legal fees. At last count, $49 million dollars of donations were spent on lawyers. Taking mom and pop campaign donations for his own expenses from a guy who says he is super rich. Disgusting.

  5. I wouldn’t be to quick to eliminate all the other Republican candidates in favor of a guy you can’t trust. More info will be coming out about illegal things Trump did in the oval office, his proclivity to take nude pictures of his wives and mistresses, his secret business dealings with the Russians, and that info is coming from the Republican side. Who knows what the dems have? He is fighting hard to get back in the white house just so he can’t be tried or convicted of anything.
