The Progress
Table of Contents eatery inside the Mesquite Library has been a Thanksgiving Day benefactor to the Virgin Valley Food Bank since the year 2020.
At that time, the two new owners of Table of Contents, Hugh McPherson and Gallen Allen, were struggling through the pandemic. But they decided they wanted to help make sure everyone had a Thanksgiving dinner. They started a drive to collect turkeys and monetary donations from their patrons. Those donations were used to purchase the food which was donated to the Virgin Valley Food Bank for distribution.
This early tradition has since become an annual labor of love and kindness.
McPherson passed away in 2021, and Allen said, “We do this in honor of Hugh – it was his idea.”
Offering quality food and personal service, the Table of Contents has flourished in Mesquite. Each year, the donations have increased.
Food Bank Director Leslie Montgomery was wide-eyed when Allen handed her three turkeys and $1,250 in cash on Tuesday, Nov. 14.
As she waved her handful of money, Montgomery said, “This just makes my heart flutter.”
Allen said that he plans to show up as a volunteer at the food bank to help on distribution day.
