The Progress
The Spirit of Christmas came roaring into the Mesquite Police Department parking lot on Tuesday morning, Dec. 12.
The members of the Kokopelli ATV Club drove up together in their OHVs bring their holiday cheer in the form of a $4,000 check to help pay for the Shop-with-a-Cop program which was to take place the very next day.
Club Treasurer Lisa Kowallweki presented the check to MPD Chief Maquade Chesley, who was quite surprised at the generous amount and earnestly expressed his thoughts.
“I cannot believe this, this is unreal!” Chesley said. “You don’t realize how many kids will have a Christmas now from this donation.”
Kokopelli officials clarified that the club does not hold fundraisers. Nevertheless, the club gives to two charity organizations each year. The Kokopelli members prefer to personally donate to their cause rather than spending time and work organizing a fundraising event. This caused a lot of joking among the members present about the methods the Kokopelli President Dominic Oliveto uses to convince members to donate.
The other organization which benefits from the kind-hearted and good-natured donations of Kokopelli Club members is the Virgin Valley Food Bank.
