The Progress
The City of Mesquite is lit up with holiday cheer. A multitude of residents have decorated their homes and yards beautifully for the holidays.
Most of these folks do this simply as a way to celebrate the holiday season. It is a way to brighten up the longest nights of the year with color and beauty.
To double down on the fun, the City of Mesquite holds its annual Holiday Light Display Contest. The Mesquite Athletics and Leisure Services Department sponsors this affair, appointing independent judges to determine winners and giving out awards for the top three home displays in town. About a dozen homes entered the contest this year.
The judges made their rounds on the evenings of December 16-17. This six-member panel used a number system to rate each entry on creativeness, lights and decorating, originality and overall appearance. Each judge scored the entries independently of one another. The scores were then submitted and tallied up by the City staff.
The winners of this year’s contest had not yet been announced in time for The Progress’ press deadline. But the awards will be presented at the first City Council meeting in January.
But The Progress has driven the route and we were impressed at the efforts that the entrants made to display their holiday cheer for all to enjoy. We urge our readers to go out and take a look at these community stand-outs. They are all certainly enjoyable.
In this edition, we are publishing photos of a few of the highlights of our drive through town.
Merry Christmas to all and we hope your holidays are made happier by this cheery tour.
