Stephen G. Sorenson

Stephen G. Sorenson, 73, passed away on December 7, 2023 in Overton, NV. Stephen was raised in Chesapeake, VA by his parents, Donald and Dorothy Sorenson. At the age of seventeen, he joined the United States Army and worked as a Still and Motion Picture Photographer before retiring with twenty years of service. Some of his notable military assignments included: photographing armistice meetings in Panmunjom, Korea; photographic documentation of weapons and equipment testing in subarctic conditions in Alaska; and making medical training films at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Washington D.C.

After leaving the military and moving to Las Vegas, NV, Stephen was employed at the Old Sands Casino in the photography department. Later, he went to dealing school in order to become a poker dealer. Stephen worked over twelve years dealing poker.

In October 2000, Stephen married his wife, Deborah Lindsey Simons, and moved to Gulfport, MS. The devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 resulted in relocating back to Las Vegas, NV until 2013 when he and Debbie moved to Overton, NV to enjoy his photography again, photographing the beauty of nature and the “endless pursuit” to find the perfect picture. Stephen spent a good bit of time writing screenplays which was his relaxing endeavor.

Family and friends will miss him, his stories, and his witty sense of humor. But his memory will still be with them while he is in a much better place with the Lord.

Stephen is survived by his wife, Debbie Sorenson; two step-daughters: Jaime (Jarrett) Largaespada of Orlando, FL, and Ami (Brett) Shappell of Elizabethtown, PA; four grandchildren; two sisters: Gloria (Gilbert) Belangia of New Bern, NC and Barbara (Randy) Brittain of Virginia Beach, VA; one niece and three nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Diane Privott.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., February 17, 2024 at Lake Mead Baptist Church, 725 N. Moapa Valley Blvd, Overton, NV.
