I am responding to Vernon Robison’s 7 February “From the Editor’s Desk” column. It is sad that in this small local paper that Vernon chose to practice what is known as ‘yellow journalism’.
Yellow journalism is a style of reporting that emphasizes sensationalism over facts. Because the article makes statements as if they were facts, even an editorial has journalistic qualities.
In this case Vernon should have stuck to the gist of the article, which is that there are no real choices for Nevadans in the choice for president.
Personally, I am a registered non-partisan, as I despise both parties. That said I do not agree with lying about one or the other candidates, they are flawed enough.
Our founding fathers chose not to include political parties in the Constitution because they considered them divisive. Imagine that!
That said, the press has freedoms enshrined in the first amendment, and they are supposed to be the watch dog of the people, over the government. But Vernon chose to let his Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) override his role as a watch dog.
My issue with the article is that he states Trump ‘organized’ and incited an armed mob and sent them to the Capitol, in his own words, “Fight! or you won’t have a country.” Vernon knows this is false and a talking point of the leftist media. Trump did not organize or incite an armed mob. Trump held a political rally; he had nothing to do with organizing an armed mob. In fact, the mob was unarmed, except for two rioters. One man who has been determined to have mental health issues, and even that man never fired or even pulled his firearm out during the riot. The other had a Taser. Two people do not equate to an ‘armed’ mob.
The other issue is Vernon’s use of cutting out content to change the context of Trump’s speech. President Trump did say fight for your country, or you won’t have one. But the column leaves out the part where Trump said, ‘peacefully march.’ Vernon knew Trump said this, but his TDS overrode his journalistic integrity in order to skew the context of Trump’s actions.
As a community we deserve better from The Progress, than yellow journalism and TDS. This column simply provided us all with evidence that journalism is dead, and the press are no longer watch dogs, but simply partisan propagandists. They are part of the problem, not solutions!

TDS? Libtard? These are terms that Mr Biller and the MAGAts throws out at anyone who dares criticize the Orange Messiah. How dare we criticize someone who calls veterans like me suckers, committed five crimes by lying to the draft board, and threatened his oldest son that he would be disowned if he joined the military. How dare we criticize someone for believing Putin over our own intelligence agencies, who promises to get us out of NATO, and supports Russia in its quest to retake Eastern Europe. How dare we criticize a life long liar, a convicted rapist, a person who committed fraud, a person who claims to be a billionaire but has to ask poor people for money, and who would never let those same people anywhere near his properties. How dare we?
Mr Robson is entitled to his opinion. An editorial is his opinion. There are over 1,000 people in prison who believed the big lie and came to Washington on 1/6. Their lives were ruined. We will remember the Big Lie this November.

Political rally? Trump encouraged a peaceful protest?
The peaceful protesters were. Nothing but Maga thugs, QAnon idiots and racist Proud boy’s and oath keepers. Trump worked up the crowd of hate and sick them on the capitol. 174 police officers were assaulted with 15 hospitalized. 9 people died.
The peaceful protesters erected a gallows west of the capital with rioters chanting hang Mike Pence.
