No One Asked Me But… (February 21, 2024)

By DR. LARRY MOSES

No one asked me but… Last week an interesting hearing took place right in front of the American people. It indirectly involved Donald J. Trump’s attempt to invalidate the 2020 Presidential voting in Fullerton County, Georgia.

The hearing was an inquiry into the use of Georgia State funds to support the romantic adventures of the Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and her lover. However, it was an offshoot of a Trump indictment in the State of Georgia that deals with election interference by President Trump while he was still in office.

Prosecutors charged President Trump and his allies under the state’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization Act. The charge is that the President and nineteen of his henchmen were acting together for a common criminal goal. According to the charges, long after recounts and litigation had confirmed that President Trump lost the election; Trump and his allies tried to pressure Georgia officials into overturning the election results to keep Trump in power.

According to A.G. Fani Willis, on January 2, 2021, while still in office President Trump called Georgia Secretary of State Raffensperger and asked him to “find 11,780 Trump votes”. This is one vote more than he needed to be declared the winner of the Georgia Electoral votes.

The indictment further alleges that President Trump called Frances Watson, the chief investigator for the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office, on December 23, 2020, as he pushed claims of election fraud.

The indictment alleges that Trump placed calls to Governor Kemp on December 5, 2020, as well as placing a call to Attorney General Carr on December 8, 2020, to pressure them regarding Georgia’s election results.

It states that President Trump placed a call to Speaker Ralston on December 7, 2020, asking Ralston to call a special legislative session in an effort to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results.

It further contends that Trump’s campaign called nearly 120 Republican Georgia legislators asking them to support a slate of presidential electors for Trump.

Apparently, none of the Georgia officials were overly impressed and did not respond in a favorable manner to any of those requests.

However, the Attorney General of Fulton County Georgia, Fani Willis decided to bring charges against the ex-President anyway. Obviously, the young Attorney General was not aware of the fact that Donald J. Trump was not one to lie down and grovel before a small-town attorney.

This whole episode reminded me of the scene in the movie Fried Green Tomatoes. A middle age women was waiting for a parking spot to clear, and as it did, two young girls zoomed in front of her and took the space. When the older lady complained, the young girl stated, “Too bad. We are younger and quicker,” and walked off laughing.

The older lady took her large station wagon and began ramming the Volkswagen the girl was driving. When the young girl screamed “What are you doing?” The lady replied: “Too bad, I am older and have more insurance.”

Mr. Trump was merely saying “I am richer and more powerful than you.”
The hearing into A.G. Fani Willis’ and Attorney Wade’s romance stemmed from Mr. Trump’s defense attorneys’ allegations that Willis engaged in an improper relationship with Wade whom she hired to work on the racketeering case against Mr. Trump. While the Trump defense team muddied the reputation of Willis, the hearing had nothing to do with the allegations against Mr. Trump. However, for a short period of time attention was drawn from the accused to the accuser.

One must understand that Donald Trump will not hesitate to taint anyone who opposes him. If you are going to attack “the Donald,” you had better be prepared for a knock-down, drag-out, no-holds-barred battle.

Now before you all get excited and begin to label me a crazy MAGA Republican, let me reiterate: I am not a fan of Donald Trump. I am merely looking at a situation that is much to do about nothing.
A president makes phone calls in hope of overturning an election loss. He was unsuccessful.

No one asked me but… Do I believe that there was election fraud in 2020? Absolutely!
Do I believe that it was so rampant that it would have changed the election results? Absolutely not!
Is the election process tainted in America? Yes it is!

Fraudulent votes are symptomatic to the American election process. The two-dollar bill fell out of usage because having one in one’s procession on election day was evidence one had sold their vote.

Nevada’s Republican primary and caucus is a great example. By his choice Donald Trump’s name did not appear on the primary ballot. The state obeyed the law by holding a primary. However Republican leaders qualified the primary results by stating that if a candidate chooses to run in the Republican Primary they would not be allowed to run in the caucus and the winner of the caucus would receive all of Nevada’s delegates at the National Convention.

For some unknown reason Nikki Haley chose to run in the Primary and lost by more than 30 points to “none of the above.” Donald Trump ran in the caucus and received over 90 percent of the votes. Thus, all of the Nevada delegates to the Republican National Convention go to Trump.

In the Democratic Primary President Joe Biden collected 96 percent of the Democrat votes and will have all the Nevada delegates to the National Convention.

The President’s only contender in the Democrat Primary was the self-help author Marianne Williamson, an obscure Democrat that I would guess very few Nevada voters even knew existed.

In the New Hampshire primary Marianne Williamson ran neck-and-neck with fellow candidate Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota. Phillips was not on the Nevada primary ballot.
Williamson’s claim to fame is that she is Oprah Winfrey’s spiritual leader.

It seems to me that America has the technology to run an open primary allowing for the selection of the top two or three candidates nation-wide, followed by a runoff election.

The major issue with this is the country would be turned over to the people who live in heavily populated areas. Rural and less populated areas would be at the mercy of urban dwellers. If this was a democratic country rather than a republic, this might well be fair. However, I would fear a country domineered by inner-city urban dwellers.

Thought of the week “A politician thinks of the next election; a statesman, of the next generation.”
