Jersey Mikes’s franchise opens in Mesquite

By BOBBIE GREEN

The Progress

The crew at Jersey Mike’s in Mesquite was excited to open the doors to the well-known sandwich shop on Wednesday morning.

Jersey Mikes Subs, now located at 300 N Sandhill Boulevard, became part of the Virgin Valley diner’s foodie experience with a soft opening Wednesday morning, March 6.

Franchise owner Lalo Martinez was present for the opening and to welcome patrons. Martinez owns seven other Jersey Mikes franchises in the Las Vegas area.
“My wife and I came to Mesquite a few years ago over the 4th of July holiday to get our dog away from the fireworks in Las Vegas,” Martinez said. “We drove around and liked what we saw here and decided we should open a Jersey Mikes here.”

Martinez said that working with the city staff to get the sandwich shop open was a “great experience.”
“They were very helpful,” he said. “It really only took a couple of months,”

Martinez went on to say they want to be an active member of the community. “We will be joining the Chamber and will probably have another opening with them,” he said. “Peter Cancro, founder of Jersey Mikes in 1975, believed in philanthropy and we follow his lead.”

True to his words, for their opening, Martinez partnered with the Virgin Valley High School for a fundraiser, passing out thousands of “Make a Difference” coupons giving the coupon holder a free sub with a donation of $3.00 into the donation box that goes directly to the high school. This was valid for the first 5-days only. After that, the high school would put out a flyer that, when used at Jersey Mike’s, will activate a donation of $2 to the school from Jersey Mike’s.

“It was non-stop the first day and the donation box had approximately $1,000 in it,” Martinez said. “We are happy to be here and we plan to be a good neighbor.”

One of the first patrons in, at Wednesday’s opening was Joanne Buress. “I love Jersey Mikes,” she said. “My favorite is the original Italian and the Chili Cheese Steak.”

ED McGlynn, Wyatt and Michel Bullock, eager to be among the first customers in the store, were happily waiting on their favorite subs.
“In addition to the regular American classics and Italian favorites, we also offer meatless and gluten free subs,” said store manager Trent Richards.

The Mesquite location employees twenty people.
Store hours are 10am – 9pm every day.
