The Progress
The Nevada Department of Wildlife is teaming up with a neighboring state agency to provide a top quality exhibit for the upcoming fair.
NDOW Public Affairs Supervisor Doug Nielson reported that they are teaming up with Utah Department of Natural Resources for their annual exhibit at the Clark County Fair and Rodeo.
“We are excited to have them with us,” he said. “We share borders and similar concerns. They will be of great benefit for the fair.”
Nielson said that because Utah is so close they share similar habitat types and work on biology projects together.
He added that the states share visitors and in many cases families.
“Utah is a very diverse state and will definitely have expert knowledge to help visitors,” he said.
Nielson added that the fair exhibit will have its usual archery range, fishing exhibit and hydroponics for show. He said they are working on bringing back a live fishing pool; but it’s not guaranteed at the present time. But with the fishing pool having been such a huge attraction and crowd favorite in past years, he said they are trying hard to make the pool happen. If not, then they will have a fishing exhibit like last year working on fishing skills like casting and fly-tying, he said.
A wildlife passport will be available for kids. This gives youngsters the opportunity to perform different “wildlife activities” which progresses them through a series of stations.
Nielson said that the exhibit will have some wildlife for display such as their usual live reptile exhibit which is another crowd favorite.
“However, our primary goal is to educate and inform,” Nielson said. “We will have plenty of information and experts available to answer any questions about wildlife conservation and regulation.”
This includes the Nevada Off Highway Commission being present. There will also be a plethora of boating safety tips and resources.
“This is one of our favorite events of the year,” he said of the fair. “We are really looking forward to it and doing what we can to help both Nevada and Utah.”
