The Progress
Despite an overcast and cloudy start to the day, the Virgin Valley FFA chapter delivered a festive and successful community Easter event on Saturday, Mar. 23 on the back field at Hughes Middle School. Children of all ages, along with parents and community members, were invited to participate in group’s 2nd annual Easter community event.
Along with an egg hunt for children and teenagers, there were also raffles, carnival games, face painting, a bake sale, a petting zoo (featuring baby chickand ducks), Easter-themed coloring stations, and an spring flower sale.
Egg hunt participants were placed into categories depending upon their age and given a colored wristband identifying which group they were in.
As the morning transformed into midday, children and community members took turns enjoying the numerous games offered including a ring toss, carrot toss, bowling, and a challenge to guess how many candy was in various jars. Children throughout the morning also redeemed paper slips found in Easter eggs for various prizes including stuffed animals.
“This year’s outcome was better than last year’s event,” said FFA Vice President Kitzia Perez. “Last year, we very much underestimated the amount of people that would show up. We only expected a couple dozen but more than 200 came. This year we planned for the same amount of community support, if not more, and because of the support of the community, we were able to prepare over 6,000 eggs. I think this year we were able to exceed people’s expectations and we hope to do that again next year!”
Perez revealed that the vast majority of the work for FFA’s Egg Hunt was done by students. “Everything from what was sold in the bake sale to the flowers on display was done by students of FFA and agriculture,” she said. “Also, students from VVHS student council and other school groups came out and assisted with the egg hunt and running the carnival games.”
”I had a great time helping out,” said Clara Riccobuono, a VVHS student volunteer. “I was surprised by how much the community came out and supported this event.”
“That was fun!” said five-year-old participant Lucas Nicolas. “I liked it but I wanted more candy. I think I want to come back for next year!”
VVHS FFA would like to thank the community for their continued support and for making the event a success.
