Edward Paul
Longtime Mesquite resident Edward Paul passed peacefully at the age of 83 on March 16, 2024, after a brief illness.
Born in Toledo, Ohio, Ed grew up a scrappy kid with a fiery personality and a sense of adventure.
After serving a stint in the Army, he headed out West and earned his MBA at California State University, Long Beach. Upon graduating, he moved to Santa Barbara where he met his soulmate, Jan Nelson, at a church singles group. After a 3-month courtship and his promise that “If it doesn’t work out, we can always get a divorce,” they tied the knot in Las Vegas in 1972. From that moment on they were inseparable and devoted to each other.
Ed enjoyed a long career as an accountant for several major corporations. After retirement, he applied his mathematical expertise to figuring out the best strategies for outsmarting the poker and keno machines at the local casinos. His hard work was rewarded with too many Royal Flushes to count and many great payoffs on his special 7-spot number combinations.
He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his pride in his family, and his remarkable knowledge of old songs which he loved to join in and sing along with at family gatherings. His death will leave everyone he touched sorely missing his cheerful, loving presence.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Janice; his beloved children: Rani Paul Rod and Bradley Paul; son-in-law Dean Rod; and future daughter-in-law Sabrina Brooks; his loving grand-dogs Pepper, Milo, and Lucy will also miss him terribly.
