OBITUARY: Samuel Gary Evans

Samuel Gary Evans

Samuel Gary Evans

Samuel Gary Evans, 81, passed away March 21, 2024 in Logandale, NV. He was born December 24, 1942 in Salt Lake City, UT to Samuel Osborne and Lucille Gifford Evans. His family later moved to Hatch, UT where Gary developed a love for all things outdoors. He would often say that school interfered with hunting, camping and fishing; things he enjoyed throughout his life.

He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Texas from 1962-1964. He loved the people he met there, and was grateful for the opportunity to serve. While he was gone, his family moved to Newcastle, UT, and upon his return, he met his future wife, Beverly Christensen. They were sealed in the St. George, UT Temple March 13, 1965, and recently celebrated 59 years of marriage.

Gary joined the Utah National Guard and served for six years. During that time, the young family lived in Cedar City, UT and later moved to Las Vegas, NV for better work. Gary was hired by the City of Las Vegas Fire Department and worked as a firefighter for thirty-three years before retiring in 2001. He and Beverly moved to Logandale, NV in 1978 to raise their eight children. He was a hard worker, building multiple homes and always finding work on the side. He loved riding motorcycles, sharing jokes, and had a knack for making up silly rhymes and songs.

Gary loved and was proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In recent years, he often became emotional when surrounded by his family and was proud of how close they were with one another. He was a faithful member of the Church and served in various callings throughout his life. He and Beverly especially loved serving in the Las Vegas Temple together as ordinance workers.

Gary is survived by his wife, Beverly; his children: Debbie (Randy) Carlson, Julie (Charlie) Worden, Brad (Candi) Evans, Kevin (Cynthia) Evans, Suzy (Rob) Grow, Natalie (Lance) Bunker, Vicki (Shane) Conger, and Wayne (Melissa) Evans; thirty grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and siblings: Sandra (Rod) Kaminska, Kirk (Gloria) Evans, Greg (Sandra) Evans, and Vaughn (Dawn) Evans.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Lucille Evans and his sister, Afton Evans.
