Over one hundred people gathered in the Casablanca Cortez/Stardust Room on Saturday evening, Mar. 24 to view and bid on about 130 pieces of southwest art on display there as a fundraiser for the Virgin Valley Art Association.

The late Mesquite residents Ann and Mike Rice, patrons of the VVAA, had left their entire southwest art collection in trust to the VVAA who was hosting the auction and dinner event.

All the proceeds of the auction would be used to fund free art classes for the local children.
Liz Etie and her eleven-member committee organized the well-arranged event.
“The committee literally took the art off the wall from the estate, cleaned, inventoried and labeled all the pieces,” Etie said.

Attendees were treated to a lovely cocktail hour while viewing and bidding on the artwork while socializing with their friends and enjoying appetizers.

An elegant Italian dinner was served buffet style with assorted desserts. At this point everyone was up checking their bids to see if they were still top bidders. The evening turned out to be a great social event as well as providing funds for the Arts.

Etie reported most of the art displayed had been sold and they took in approximately $7,100. All of the winning bidders left with neatly wrapped artwork.
