Goodsell appointed as City Clerk

After seven months of serving alone as acting Mesquite City Clerk, Julie Goodsell was finally appointed as the new Mesquite City Clerk in a City Countil meeting held on Tuesday evening March 26. Goodsell is now officially filling the position left by the late Tracy Beck who served many years in the office.

Goodsell had been the Deputy Clerk/Assistant to Beck, for the past three years. So the new appointment is far from unknown territory.
“It has been a long seven months waiting to get the position officially,” Goodsell said. “I want to thank the current city council, the mayor, my co-workers and everyone who has supported me.”

Goodsell admitted that she has big shoes to fill. “Tracy was the best!” she said. “We called her the Document Diva. I want to thank Martine Green, for all her help, she has been my mentor.”

Goodsell was happy about getting through her first election process on her own, and extremely grateful for the help from the Henderson City Elections Clerk, Julie Chapman.

All the candidates have now filed and her election work is mostly finished except for collecting ballots after the election.
“Besides the elections, the City Clerk’s office is where people come to request public records, like maps and permits, and we also keep a log of the cemetery,” she said. “My duties also include taking minutes at all the city meetings and I create the agendas.”

It is very detailed work and there is plenty of it. Currently, Goodsell is still alone in the office.
“I look forward to getting an assistant!” she said.

Goodsell has lived in Mesquite for thirteen years, moving here from Salt Lake City, Utah.
