The Moapa Valley High School Theatre class is getting back on stage this week as they present “Egad, the Woman in White!” by Tim Kelly.
The laugh-romping melodrama based on the classic tale by Wilkie Collins is expected to bring entertainment to all those who attend.
“It has one purpose in mind,” high school theatre teacher Dr. Kenna Higgins said. “It’s wilder, faster and funnier than the original classic.”
The play will run for three days, April 2-4 at 7:00 PM each night in the Ron Dalley Theatre on the campus of Moapa Valley High School.
The play features one of the “most disreputable (and hilarious) villains of all time,” Sir Percival Glyde (played by Ryker Parkinson). Parkinson plays a man who is not above dirty tricks, he’s below them.
Higgins summarized the play as Glyde dispatches his adversaries with nefarious ease and even seals his young wife in a madhouse in order to steal her vast fortune! He battles the wicked Countess Fosco (played by Abi Andersen) in one of the most uproarious fight scenes.
According to Higgins only one thing scares Glyde, the mysterious “Woman in White” (played by Kyra Murphy) who escapes from the asylum to seek him out.
Higgins said there is an array of characters within the play. These include abandoned wives, insolent servants, lawyers, hypochondriacs, and manly drawing masters.
“It is a parade across the stage in a never ending gale of comedy that terminates only when Sir Percival is brought to justice in an outrageous and spectacular finale that will have the audience cheering,” she said.
Higgins added the students have been hard at work and are extremely excited to lift the curtain and put on the show.
All are invited. Admission is $8 for students, $10 for adults. Tickets can be bought at the door with cash only.
“Egad, the Woman in White” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc.
