The Moapa Valley Town Advisory Board (MVTAB) approved a zoning item on 13 acres along Pioneer Road in Logandale during a meeting held Wednesday, March 27.

The land in question, actually is comprised of three separate parcels which straddle Pioneer Road about 300 yards north of the intersection with Liston. The land is currently undeveloped and is almost entirely vacant.

Representing the property owner, Jennifer Lazovich explained that the request was simply to build a fence around the property on both sides of the road for security reasons.

Because the fence is being requested with no current plans to build a primary structure on the property, the plan had run slightly askew of county code. Thus, the request was for a waiver of development standards.

“To be clear, we are not trying to fence off the road right of way,” Lazovich said. “We are not trying to block access to the trails. It is just fencing off the private property on either side of the roadway.”
Lazovich also addressed a second waiver being requested for the property. This was to allow an 8 foot high fence, where the code only allows for 6 feet.

“Actually, our fence is only planned at 6 feet,” Lazovich said. “The only reason we have to ask for eight is because of the topography of the parcel. Parts of it kind of go up on a hill so that means the height of the fence has to vary in those areas.”

Lazovich emphasized that the fence being sought is not to be a block wall but wrought-iron, colored blakc, which can be seen through to the other side.

There were no negative public comment on the item; and board members expressed support for it.
MVTAB member Lois Hall made a motion to approve the request which was adopted with a unanimous vote.

During public comment, former North Las Vegas mayor John Lee who was in attendance, stood to speak.

He introduced himself as a Republican candidate in the upcoming election for U.S. Congressional District 4 (CD4), the seat currently held by Rep. Steven Horsford.
Lee spoke about his experience in the State Legislature many years ago.

He also talked about his time as mayor of North Las Vegas during a difficult time for the city. During that nine year timeframe the city experienced a boom in growth and new industry, he said.

“When I came into office, the city was failing, it’s bond rating was junk, it was going bankrupt and there was talk of going into state receivorship,” Lee said. “By the time we were done, we had cleaned up and streamlined city hall, helped diversify the economy and brought jobs to the community. When I left office, North Las Vegas had an A bond rating and was a strong, thriving city.”

Lee said that he had since retired and had been spending time at a summer home in Pine Valley, Utah. But he had recently received a call from Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo urging him to run for the CD4 seat. With some urging he had decided to do so.

“I really want to be your Congressman,” Lee said. “I want to go to Washington and work on solving problems like I have done before.”
