The Fine Arts Building at the Clark County Fair will be a patriotic spectacle this year as the building’s decorations will highlight the theme.

“The theme is different this year as we will be covering America through the Years,” Exhibit Hall Director Robin Maughan said last week in an interview. “The colonial through current times.”
Maughan said that her committee felt the need for this theme as many Americans nowadays lack the knowledge of basic American history.
“We have gone all out with decorating and it is looking great,” she said.

Besides the usual competitions for the arts and sciences categories, there will be a new added technological tool used, Maughan said. QR codes will be present throughout the displays to help fairgoers to find information about the displays.
“It will add a whole new dimension to the exhibits,” she said. “Little by little we are upgrading and improving.”

Some highlights this year will include in the collections, a full historical vintage “gumball” collection.

Another will be the return of local quilter Becky Conk who will be entering another masterpiece after taking a small break in recent years.
“She is a favorite amongst everyone and people love her work,” Maughan said of Conk.

Another favorite is tole painter Gail Lindsay who will be present at the exhibit.

The Country Store and Bakery will be open for business as usual and all the amazing entries of artists and scientists will be available for viewing pleasure.

These include art, photography, industrial arts, science, home science, home arts, baked goods, creative arts, collections, horticulture and much more.
“It really is a whole amazing visual experience,” Maughan said.

In addition, the patriotic theme will definitely add flair and everyone will be amazed how each time period and era is decorated, Maughan said.

She also added that each entry that wins ribbons are real winners and are judged.
“Some people have the misconception that a lower ribbon is a participation award, but they are not!” Maughan said. “Every single ribbon winner is judged and awarded for their score.”

She added that the only participation awards are given to children under the age of seven.

Another new addition is a designated area where professionals and experts will be coming in each day and providing demonstrations and exhibitions. These presentations will include science, arts and more.
“It is just going to be so amazing and everyone will truly be surprised,” Maughan said.
