Mesquite urged to Name that Park

By BOBBIE GREEN

The Progress

The proposed all-wheels park planned to be constructed on Woodbury Lane, across from the Virgin Valley Elementary School in Mesquite is all designed, funded and now it is looking for a name.

The Mesquite Department of Athletics and Leisure Services has begun a local naming contest for the soon-to-be skate park. The department has collected name suggestions from the public for the past month. Now, with a list of names proposed by local residents, department leaders are inviting local folks to vote on their favorite.

“We have had some great names submitted,” said Nick Montoya, Director of the Department. “Now everyone is invited to vote on a name for the all-wheels park.”

Proposed park names include Mesquite Xtreme Park, Woodbury Wheels Park, Wheelz Up Park, Wheelies and Grinders Skate Park (WAGS), All Wheels Park, Hot Wheelz Park, Velocity Park and The Skate Yard.

The proposed park will accommodate all types of fun on wheels. It will include a Velosolutions Pump Track for bikes, a skate park with stairs and rails, a viewing area, a hang-out zone, a shade area and public restroom facilities.

Funding for the All-Wheels Park has come from a Community Development Block Grant to the city.
Voting on the park name will continue until Saturday, May 4. All votes are submitted online. To vote with a smartphone phone, residents can scan the QR code below. To vote online, visit https://arcg.is/OeHav.
