The Progress
Mesquite consignment store “Rooster Cottage” hosted an open house and outdoor gallery for local artisans on Saturday, April 6. It was a fun day of indoor and outdoor shopping at the store and in the parking lot, making for many happy patrons.
Shoppe owners Carol and Dana Bullock put on this event twice each year. The store features discount sales prices and the local artisans bring their crafts to sell in vendor booths.
Pleasant music was provided by Scott Grove/Groovy Productions. His music and singing encouraged patrons to hang around, just to listen, after the shopping was done.
Carol and Dana opened Rooster Cottage thirteen years ago and it was a hit from the start. Since then, they have grown their space size to accommodate the consignment merchandise and have added a gift gallery.
“We now have Peepers Reader Glasses and the largest selection of purses in Mesquite,” said Carol.
Who knew?
Jen Laggart knew. She was there shopping for a new purse. “I always come here for my purses,” she said. “They have a good selection.”
Artisan Carolyn Uhl was showing her unique baskets woven with pine needles. Uhl said this was her second year to participate in the craft fair.
“I started making these baskets during COVID,” she said. “Looking for something to do, I found a kit that I’d had in my closet for 20 years. I got it out and tried it and now I am hooked. It’s fun to make these.”
She had quite a few admirers of her work lingering at her booth.
Rooster Cottage contributes to community goodwill, such as sponsoring youth groups and the “Fill my Trunk” Salvation Army food drive put on each year by local Realtor Karen Fielding.
