The themed “America through the Ages” decorations at the Fine Arts Building were a favorite amongst the Fair crowd this year, according to multiple fair-goers.

“I am so glad everyone enjoyed the decorations,” Exhibit Hall Coordinator Robin Maughan said.
Several members of the crowd said they enjoyed the journey into American history and culture. They had decorations showing off memorabilia and decorations World War II, the 1980s and even more.

The favorite among most was the 1980s decorations which included the Ghostbusters logo, a Save Ferris button and a Rubix cube.
But the real winners were those who took home ribbons and championship titles for the arts and sciences competition events.

One such lucky winner was Best of Class and Reserve Champion Carolyn Marshall of Logandale.
“I was excited and wasn’t expecting anything,” she said of her victories within the quilting categories.

She had two of the top quilts in the competitions this year. She said they took her about a year to make.
Marshall has been quilting almost all of her life. Each of her children and grandchildren have a quilt made by her.

One of the entries was a collage of farm animals and tools to create a colorful masterpiece which caught several viewers’ eyes, both young and old. the other prize winner was a patchwork success with the traditional star patterns in each patch.

“I was just looking at helping by supplying entries so those who came had something to look at and see,” Marshall said explaining that she had no thought that she might win.

The years’ Arts and Sciences entries were in the hundreds for winners as they hold the most categories of competition. However, the top of the top, the pristine of the premium were as follows.

The Best of Show winners: Fine Arts – Betsy Sprague, Creative Arts – Carolyn Lini, Industrial Arts – Dylan Soule, Horticulture – Teresa Jones, Home Arts – Jody T.

As for the Country Store and the Country Bakery, Maughan said it was a huge success, causing many attendees to salivate. She said the best selling treats were the cookies, the cinnamon rolls, and the caramel corn. For the merchandise, it was reported that the kitchen supplies and kids apparel were flying out the door.

Some of the favorite exhibits were the Gumball Machine collection owned by Scott Carson.
A lineup of demonstrations were well attended and had many questions asked.

Another favorite were the science projects from school-age children. Maughan said it was great to see all of the kids who won get the big smiles on their faces when they saw their ribbon.
“Congratulations to the winners and we just really feel grateful for the positive feedback on the decorations,” Maughan said.

She added that she looks forward to getting more entries next year. Her committee is already in the works of planning another round of great decorations.

Thanks was given to their volunteers, sponsors, and especially the Pledger Solomon Family.
“Robin (Maughan) does everything and this really could not have gone any better without her,” Marshall said, giving her thanks to the exhibit hall coordinator.
