The Progress
The Zephyr Singers will perform its Spring Concert entitled ‘There is Music in the Air’ onSaturday, April 20 at 7 pm in the Logandale Chapel at 3245 N. Moapa Valley Blvd. All are invited to this free concert.
The concert’s theme comes from a traditional African American spiritual with the same title.
“This joyful expression of the power of music in our lives gives voice to our feelings,” said Zephyr Director Gaye Nelson. “Since COVID-19 and having to cancel our Spring concert just a few days before the performance, we don’t take this opportunity for granted.”
Songs of joy and encouragement will be performed, along with reflective and reverent music, with Katie Rose and Sherrie Whitney as piano accompanists.
Cellist Brent Pettit will be joining the singers, sharing a piece that he has composed for choir and flute, ‘Feed My Sheep’, with the flute being played by Mary Lou Whitney.
The Singers will also be performing Alleluia by Giulio Caccini. This piece gives a great sense of reverence. The accompaniment is played on the organ by Sherrie Whitney, with Walter White and Brent Pettit joining in on the latter half on violin & cello respectively.
Heather Lyon will join the choir later playing the alto recorder. Brent Pettit will play the standup Bass on a rousing rendition of ‘Down by the Riverside.”
Zephyr Singers is a local non-denominational Christian choral group. “We give special thanks to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for the use of the building,” said Nelson.
