The Progress
The Virgin Valley High School woodshop elective program hosted a Woodshop Night event on Tuesday, April 16. The evening was to highlight projects made by local students in their Woodshop classes.
The evening also recognized VVHS woodshop sponsors including Do It Best, Sherwin Williams, JF Woodworking, Tractor Supply Co. and Walmart.
The woodshop department features three different sections of construction classes. Each class focuses on different aspects of construction and woodworking. As the students move forward in the classes, they learn more advanced skills and move on to more advanced work in return.
All woodshop students that made projects were able to display their for the public to view at the show. Some of the projects included furniture like dressers, nightstands, bed frames, and many more!
The projects were judged and ranked in the show. The best in show grand champion went to a china hutch made by VVHS senior Kurt Felix. The best in show beginning student was Nicole Atkinson who made a night stand.
First place advanced student was Kelsey Ellis with an Otrio tic tac toe game. First place beginning student was Ty Felix with a night stand. Another first place beginning student was Decker Lee who made a bed frame.
Second place winners were Jackson Greig, Brooks Perkins, Jacob Nelson, Karli Moore and another Kurt Felix project.
The third place winners were John Illis, Max Hughes, Alonzo Roque, Oliver Zuniga, Ava Wolter, and Cooper McOmie.
The VVHS photography class also participated in this show. For the previous week, the photography class had been taking candid pictures of the woodshop, auto shop, and culinary classes while they worked. These pictures were displayed throughout the exhibit area along with the other projects.
“We had a great time at the annual wood show,” said woodshop teacher Jon Felix. “Parents, administrators and community members came out to show support for the students. It is so fun to see all the projects the students have been working on in one place. It really shows how much is happening in the woodshop. Great job to all the students and congratulations to the winners!”
