It was a beautiful morning and the weather was perfect on Saturday, April 20 at the Mesquite Republican Women’s (MRW) 3rd annual Spring Festival held in the West Field at the Mesquite Rec. Center.
The festival is a fundraiser for the MRW and an opportunity for the community to enjoy a day outdoors, shop with over 50 crafts and informational vendors.
The event kicked off at 10 am with the Flag Presentation, by Paul LeVan Invocation by Pastor Ross Doyel, and Tammy Dachtyl singing the National Anthem.
Rick Wall and the Outlaws provided lively music throughout the day. A silent auction was going on and the MRW had a table filled with home baked goodies for sale. Mesquite Cancer Help Society was also there with their new “All Cancers” t-shirt for sale.
Many local and state election candidate were there to talk one-on-one with voters and answer their questions.
Each of them gave a five-minute stump speech from the stage. Local candidates included Wes Boger, Bill Ennis, Ron Shackelford, Steve Clutterham, Jesse Whipple, Terry Spriggs Sr., Nicklas Montey, and Randy Laub. Mesquite mayor Al Litman was mingling in the crowd.
In attendance as candidates at the state level were John Lee, and Dave Flippo, both running for Congress. Running for US Senate Tony Grady, Berry Lindermann, Stephanie Phillips, and Jeff Gunter representatives were there.
“We had a great turnout of people, said MRW President Sue Zarubin. “We had 15 candidates running for state and local offices here to answer questions.”
Zarubin reported the vendors left happy saying they had a good day.
