Students at Moapa Valley High School celebrated their traditional M Week last week which is designed to close the school year with a bang. The week was full of fun activities, dress-up days, other events.

“M Week’’ has reportedly been around as long as the Moapa Valley High School itself, and was originally one of the biggest celebrations of the school year. The week was established to show pride in Moapa Valley High School, as well as being a celebration for seniors.

StuCo planned dress up days for each day of the week. On Monday was PJ Day- a fun day where students come to school in pajamas. Tuesday was Nerd vs. Jock day. Wednesday’s theme was to dress like your dad. Thursday was dress like iconic duos day. Finally, Friday’s dress up day was “white lie.” Students were supposed to wear a white shirt with a “white lie” about themselves.

The MVHS student council also arranged various activities for the students. Monday had an evening drive-in movie featuring the movie Hercules. Students pulled their cars into the senior parking lot and had fun watching the film projected on a large screen. Tuesday evening, a variety of games were available on the MVHS football field for students to play.

Wednesday night was the historical “Mr. M” contest. This is always a favorite among students. This year, there were four contestants showcasing their “Mr M” talent. Each performance was hilarious and had the crowd roaring with laughter.

Contestant Shandon Matheson showcased his talent of braiding his sister’s hair while giving a motivational speech. Kallin Bosch shared his talent of singing. Spencer Washburn wowed the audience with his rendition of the Mario Bros song “Peaches.” Dalton Marshall also performed a genius talent show act.

Each contestant also modeled a sports outfit and a formal outfit for the crowd, each of which brought laughter from the audience.

The 2024 “Mr M.” winner was Kallin Bosch, with the runner up being Shandon Matheson.
“My favorite activity was definitely Mr. M,” said MVHS senior Angelica Perez. “It was so fun seeing the boys do that. I know they worked really hard and they had the whole audience in laughter!”

The classic battle of the Battle Of the Bands took place on Friday and is also a legendary M Week event. Multiple student bands performed in an effort to take the winning title. The band Velvet Fog, a big crowd pleaser, was made up of a group of MVHS teachers. The audience loved all the bands and it made for a great event.

To top off the week, the Junior and Senior Prom was held on Saturday evenig. This year’s prom, themed “A Night in Greece,” was held atht eh Clark County Fairgrounds.

“As my last high school dance ever, I wanted to make the best of it and prom did not disappoint,” said Student Body President Charlie Serrano. “The fairgrounds plaza area was a nice change of scenery compared to other school dances. I’m super happy the results StuCo pulled together and couldn’t have asked for anything better.”

Students seemed to enjoy themselves throughout the night. There were various photo booths and decorations put up throughout the fairgrounds and the plaza was truly transformed.

The prom royalty was announced that evening. Senior Prom King was awarded to Hunter Neel. Cali Ellsworth was named as Prom Queen.
“Prom was so fun!” Ellsworth said. “Being outside at the fairgrounds was really enjoyable and extra special because it was my senior year!”
