Thomas Edward “Ted” Deakin, age 85, passed away in his home on April 20, 2024 in Moapa, NV. Ted was born December 13, 1938 in Wayne, PA to Paul Edward Deakin and Ann Moore.

Ted was raised in Portland, OR, and at 18, was recommended to join the military. He joined the United States Air Force in 1957 where he worked as an ECM Operator, flying on the RB-66B on recon missions, combating enemy radar and radio surveillance in the years leading up to the Vietnam Conflict.

While stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, NV, he met Constance Shawl. Ted knew instantly that he wanted to marry Connie, and after a short courtship, they were married on June 7, 1959 in Henderson, NV, and welcomed their four children in quick succession. Ted was sent to London, England for two years before an honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1965. After returning to Las Vegas, Ted worked for the railroad as a Maintainer, fixing railroad tracks, and later as a Relay-Technician. He retired as a superintendent.

He and Connie moved to Moapa, NV, where Ted worked as a Fire Chief as Connie worked as Ambulance Coordinator for Station 72. He was instrumental in the building of the station and the community center in Moapa, NV. They later retired and enjoyed their time in Moapa till Connie’s passing in 2020. Ted had many struggles with cancer and his health, but enjoyed life, traveling and spending time with his kids and grandchildren.

Ted loved anything that had to do with planes, trains, and automobiles. He was non-stop, always finding something to do or to tinker on. He could do anything, from engines to building houses. He had a heart of gold, and would always help others. He loved his family, and looked forward to be with his Connie again.

Ted is survived by his children: Stuart (Joann) Deakin, Steven (Susan) Deakin, Stephanie Deakin, and Scott (Teddy) Deakin; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; his sister, Marsha; and his dog, Mini. He is preceded in death by his wife, Connie Deakin; his parents; and his sister Lucy Ann Clark.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Deakin residence.

The family invites you to leave a message or memory in their Guest Book at www.moapavalleymortuary.com.
