Easy-goin’ at Bailey Car Show

The 4th annual Dan Bailey Memorial Car Show was held on the grounds of the Old Logandale School on Saturday, May 4.

In remembrance of former Logandale resident Dan Bailey, the event was an opportunity for residents of Moapa Valley and surrounding areas to get together, showcase and view cars of many different types and have a good time together.

The car show included over 40 unique cars including sports cars, classic and new models, trucks, supercars, and even a Volkswagen bug. A handful of motorcycles were also present.

Ransom Johnson, age 19, brought his yellow Volkswagen bug to the car show. “I’ve had 4 Volkswagen bugs since I was 12. I love these old cars,” said Johnson.

Looking at cars wasn’t the only thing to do at the car show on Saturday. There was a raffle throughout the event, giving the chance for those who bought tickets to win items such as artwork and car cleaning supplies. In addition, pulled pork sandwiches could be bought for $5. All money raised was donated to Brook’s Good Deeds in Logandale.

Classic rock music was played on the loudspeakers to follow the spirit of the many classic cars and their owners. The organizers of the event also played a recording of Dan Bailey’s voice.

The Bindner family, affected by a tragic auto accident a few days before, was also supported. Jason Binder’s truck was showcased as a tribute in the car show, and many people placed donations in the truck bed for the family.

Rusty Green showcased his Pontiac. “It’s been in my wife’s friend’s family for years and it just made its way to me,” he said. “It was out in the garage for years so I just fixed it up a bit and I really enjoy it.”

Another classic vehicle, a 1968 Cadillac deVille, was presented by Tammy and Nick Huerta who were there with thier grandson Omar. “This car has a very special meaning to me,” said Tammy, “I surprised my sister with it on her birthday just before she passed away. We both loved this car growing up and I’m glad I could find it for her.”

Towards the end of the event, a Best of Show was voted on by those present and awards were given out to the car owners by judges.

The car owners also revved up their cars together in honor of Dan Bailey, creating a spectacle for those in attendance.
