The Clark County Parks and Recreation Co-ed Softball Season started on Thursday, June 6 with six teams in the Moapa Valley league. It all began with the loud clack of bats as 63 total runs were scored in five games that night.

“I always enjoy going to the games on Thursdays and seeing everyone and their families enjoying the games and the concessions,” Recreation Specialist Elmer Lopez said.

Lopez noted that these community athletes truly braved the heat for some summer fun as temperatures reached as high as 111 degrees that day.

“The adult summer softball season starts again with creating family fun and a community environment for folks to come together and join in some friendly competition,” he added.
Lopez explained the league will play every Thursday night until the end of July, at which point a double elimination tournament will be played to decide the season champions. The teams’ seeding will depend on their win-loss records from the regular season games. The tournament will be played on July 23 and July 25, starting at 6 p.m. each night.

The results of the first day of competition were the following: Dirt Bags 1 vs. Team Duvall 16; Team Stratton 10 vs. Hit & Run 3; Swingers 2 vs. Moapa Heat 1; Hit & Run 7 vs. Swingers 6; and Moapa Heat 4 vs. Team Stratton 13.

Thus the teams sit at the following rankings after the first day of competition: 1-Team Stratton (2-0), 2-Team Duvall (1-0), 3-Swingers (1-1), 3-Hit & Run (1-1), 4- Dirt Bags (0-1), 5- Moapa Heat (0-2).

Next week’s schedule will be Team Stratton vs. Swingers at 6:00 p.m. on Field 1; Hit & Run vs. Team Duvall at 7:00 p.m. on Field 1; Moapa Heat vs. Dirt Bags at 7:00 p.m. on Field 2; Dirt Bags vs. Hit & Run at 8:00 p.m. on Field 1; Team Duvall vs. Moapa Heat at 8:00 p.m. on Field 2.

Lopez said the teams are set but added that community members may call for more information and questions to the Parks and Rec Logandale office at (702) 398-7480. Although the season has started, he said they may be able to do some work and get a few community members in who would still like to join the league on one of the teams already set.

He reminded teams that all umpire fees of $15 per team per game must be paid before the game.
“I appreciate all the coaches and players that make all our softball seasons possible and do my best to provide them with a fun experience,” Lopez said.
