The Progress
The Moapa Valley High School Cross Country teams hosted a weekday meet on Tuesday, October 11 at the Clark County Fairgrounds. Teams from six different schools attended including the Virgin Valley High School teams.
It was a 5000 meter course run only by boys and girls Varsity teams. Josh Thompson, Moapa Valley alumnus and runner for The Bowerman Track Club came out and supported his fellow Pirates.
Varsity boys were the first to start. Mordechai Yadegar II took out the race with a strong pace. For the Pirate boys Yadegar won their home race with a time of 16:58. Following Yadegar was Isaac Thompson (18:12), William Anderson (19:05), Gavin Hendricks (19:22), and Joseph Barnes (19:27) earning the boys 25 total points giving them the team win.
Owen Rappleye crossed the line first for the Bulldog boys with a time of 17:44. Following Rappleye was Destry Tobler (19:59), Drew Maxfield (20:15), Gavin Hughes (20:18), and Tray Hughes (20:34). The Bulldog boys team placed 2nd with 50 points.
The next race was the girls Varsity. For the Bulldog girls Jenna Walters led the race and crossed the line in 20:21. Following Walters were her teammates, Camryn Lee (24:08), Yamila Vega Archuleta (27:37), Kately Hansen (31:32), and Vivian Terry (38:46). The Bulldog girls team placed 2nd in the meet.
Kenzie Hughes crossed 1st for the Pirate girls with a time of 23:42. Following Hughes was Sasha Barnes (24:54), and Jessa Freeman (32:47).
The MVHS boys cross country team traveled to Canyon Springs High School to compete in the Coaches Association Invitational on Saturday, October 15. The meet brought together runners from more than 30 schools in the Pirates’ division alone.
Yadegar led the Pirate boys in this 5000 meter course with a time of 17:00. Following Yadegar were his teammates Isaac Thompson (18:00), Gavin Hendricks (18:24), William Anderson (18:51), and Joseph Barnes (19:20). The team placed 4th in the meet .
MVHS Pirate boys will travel to Mt. San Antonio College in California to compete in the 74th Annual Cross Country Invitational on Friday, October 21.
Virgin Valley will host their weekday on the 19th and their Invitational on the 22nd.
