By Dave Belcher

Moapa Valley Progress

The MVHS Girls Basketball team started off the week in great fashion with a win as they traveled to Las Vegas and played the Eldorado Sun Devils. The final score was 53 – 48.

It was a week where the teamwould beat two 4A schools from Vegas and lose to a 2A and a 1A team as well as a Utah 3A.

On Friday, December 17 the Pirates had an interesting dilemma. Two games on the same day in two different towns. They started at 3 p.m. in Virgin Valley where they played a very good Dixie Flyer team in the Bulldog classic. The Flyers gave the Lady Pirates everything they could handle plus more when they beat Moapa 39 – 24.

Dixie jumped out to a 12 – 7 lead after the first quarter then increased their lead by one point by the half. Then Moapa went scoreless in the third while the flyers scored 8 more to a 27 – 13 lead after three.

Moapa’s scoring was as follows; LaCroix 8, Smith 3, Harding 3, Hanna Leavitt 3, Noto 2, Shakespear 2, Campbell 2, Gifford 1. Moapa tried to come back with 11 in the fourth quarter, but Dixie countered with 12 for a 39 – 24 victory.

Moapa then boarded the bus and went home where Clark High School was waiting for them. Moapa took a 10 – 4 lead at the first quarter. Then extended it to 11 at 24-13 by half time. Ashley Noto led all Pirates with 8 points followed by Harding with 7. Shelby Gray had 6 while Hanna Leavitt and Lacroix had 5 each. Moapa scored 3 in the third as they held off the Chargers 39 – 31 for the victory.

On Saturday the lady Pirates returned to Virgin Valley for two more. The first was against the Panthers of Pahrangat Valley. The Panthers jumped out to a 12 – 7 lead after one. Day led the Panthers with 24 total points for the game. It was 25 – 19 at the half. Then 38 – 25 after three.

The Pirates were lead by Gray and Harding each scoring 8. Noto added 6 while Lacroix added 5. Moapa finished the game by scoring 13 and finished with a 53 – 38 loss to Alamo.

Then came Lincoln and a 48 – 16 beating.

Hanna Leavitt scored 7, Campbell 4, Paul and Harding each had 2, while Shakespear had 1 that was it. Here is the scoring by quarters Lincoln 10, 10, 21 and 7. Moapa 6, 3, 3 and 4 enough said.
