Fishing On Lake Mead

By Loren Brooks

I counted fourteen boats up in the Overton arm of Lake Mead on Wednesday, March 23 fishing for Striper. The weather was perfect but the fish did not seem too excited about what was being offered on line and hook.

The water temperature creeps up each week. This will bring on the spawn, which should help in harvesting the striper.

We were trolling in the Ratliff Jet boat, making efforts to put a few Stripers in the ice box. Channel 5 was buzzing with talk about fishing techniques and the location of hot spots. Frankly, the only hot spots that came our way was around 2:00 pm when we had triples.

Bob and Bill landed a 5¾ lb. striper.

Jerrine Beard also got a nice striper. She and her husband and Dave Hartshorn caught nine.

We caught seven with out my help. For some reason my two rod license did not contribute to the catch.

But Rodney, Alan and Larry seemed to lead the pack that day with 15 in the boat. They held up a nice stringer of fish for a snap shot (above) while fishing in Larry’s Thunderjet.

The warm weather is welcome this week. Someone is about to break loose and catch one over 16 lbs. the way I figure it. I kind of hope it might be me or someone in my boat. I’ll be sure to let you know.
