Moapa Valley Progress
The Moapa Valley High School track and field teams traveled to Boulder City over the weekend where they competed in the regional championships.
The boy’s team took second place behind Boulder City by a score of 75-70. The girls team finished a distant third with Boulder City winning the girls title.
Moapa Valley had several regional champions. MVHS senior, Josh Thompson led the Pirate team with Championship runs in the 1600 and the 3200 meters.
Thompson placed second to senior, Chase Witter in the 800 meter run. Witter also finished first in the 400. He finished third in the 200 but was edged out of going to state by .25 seconds by the sixth place northern finisher.
Bowen Call won the 300 meter hurdles and finished second in the 110 hurdles.
The top two in the region automatically qualify for the state meet while the third place finisher must beat out the north’s sixth place finisher to qualify.
All of Moapa’s relay teams will go to state, with the 4×400 and 4×800 placing first in their events. The 4×200 placed second. The 4×100 placing third but the team’s time beat out the north’s sixth place so Moapa qualifies for state.
Zach Waite won the triple and the long jump with Brandon Johnson placing second in the triple jump.
Justin Boren placed second in the pole vault.
For the girls team, Malory Reid won the long jump and placed second in the 100m hurdles.
Ashley Noto finished second in the 300 hurdles.
Chelsea Olige took second in each of the triple and high jumps.
Shelbie Gray finished second in the Discus and third in the shot put.
Kim Sprague finished second in the Shot put.
Moapa 4×200 took first and the 4×800 placed second for the girl’s relays.
This Friday and Saturday at Del Sol high school will be the state track and field meet. It all starts at 3:00 pm.
