Local members of the National FFA Organization traveled to Lake Tahoe to attend a leadership camp. Various team building experiences and workshops were held with members completing activities in their assigned groups. It was a way to intermingle and meet new people from across the state.
A major component of the camp is installing new officers over the zone areas. Moapa Valley is in the the Southern Zone. After a rigorous process, including an interview, officers for the southern zone were chosen.
Incoming president of the Southern Zone is Tyler Higbee from Pahranagat Valley. Vice President is Scout Holaday, also from Pahranagat Valley. Secretary is Kenna McMurray from Moapa Valley. Treasurer is Logan Center from Ely. The reporter for the Southern Zone is Anika Meldrum of Pahranagat Valley.
Activities were held each night for the campers such as dances, lip syncs, and a banquet the final night.
Moapa camper Madisyn Griffiths commented, “The dances were interesting and entertaining.”
Flag ceremonies were held each morning and night. Officers conducted these ceremonies and delivered small poems or patriotic sentiments.
The Southern Zone officers conducted the flag ceremony the final night. A banquet was also held that night with many speakers and ceremonies performed through the duration of the night.
Moapa resident, Sarah King stated, “Camp was awesome! I made a lot of new friends that I’ll have for a long time.”
The local chapter of the FFA will be holding a fundraising car wash at the MVHS Ag Farm on July 30, from 9 am to 2 pm. All are welcome.
