In a game the Pirates should have won, Chaparral beat the Lady Pirates in overtime 51-48.

The Lady Pirates were down 22-12 at the half shooting terribly as nothing would fall. Then fighting their way back the girls scored 36 points in the second half to tie the score and send it into overtime where Chaparral pulled out a 51-48 win over the lady Pirates.

Coach Jerry Swanson said he was very pleased with the second half comeback.

“If we could score 36 points a half like that there wouldn’t be anyone who could beat us,” Swanson said.

Swanson said that the game was a very positive loss because of the way the girls fought back. To be specific it was a 16-4 third quarter that brought the Pirates back, he said.

Brianna Harding scored 14 points for the game including a big shot in the fourth. Ashley Noto had 11 in the effort.

Chaparral didn’t quit, though, as they came back scoring 19 in the fourth to match Moapa at the end of regulation at 44-44.

The Pirates scored 17 in the fourth.

The problem was missed “give me’s”. Moapa shot 13-26 from the free throw line while Chaparral shot 20-37. Just one more in regulation that’s all it would have taken to win the game.

“We’re going to spend more time on free throws” Swanson said.

The Lady Pirates then finished the week with their worst performance thus far of the season at Silverado.

“We just didn’t get off the bus,” Coach Swanson said.

Once again the ladies scored only 12 in the first half. But this time there was no come back; just frustration. Swanson ended up pulling the starters and clearing the bench who got some good minutes.

Emily Mills was the leading scorer as she had 10 of the total 28 for the Pirates. The freshman showed a lot of composure on the floor as Mills led the attack in the second half.

Silverado led 35-12 at the half. They finished the Pirates off with final score of 69-28. Pirate scoring had Mills with 10, Malory Reid with 8, Hanna Leavitt with 6, Paige Leavitt with 2, Frie with 1 and Harding with 1.
