State 3A Basketball Roundup

Boys 3A Basketball

Sparks is on a roll as they have won their last three games and are 5-2 on the season. They beat Yerington 63-48, ROP 67-43 and Casa Roble from California 51-36. Morgan is their leading scorer with 14 points a game. Hernandez is their second leading scorer with 12 per game. Sparks won the state championship two years ago.

Lowry returned home from the south last week and played two games winning both. They beat Truckee in Lowry 63-47 then Lovelock 67-50 in Lovelock.

The Buckaroos are 7-3 with Watterson being their leading scorer at 16 points per game. Studebaker is their second leading scorer with 13 points a game. As a team they average 45 per game. Lowry plays North Valley this week.

Dayton comes in this week at 6-3 with a 65-47 loss to Yerington in Yerington who they beat by two at home the week prior. They also played ROP but no score was reported. Dayton has two weeks off before playing at Sparks on the 3rd. Dayton’s leading scorer is Taylor who scores 15 points per game.

Fernley beat Silver Stage last week 62-51 to raise Fernley’s record to 5-4. They play Yerington and Lovelock at home this week. Fernley’s scoring leader is Knutson with 20 points a game.

Elko had the week off. They are sitting at 3-3 so far on the season.

Truckee played three games last week one at Lowry which they lost 63-47 then they were killed by Placer 59-36 and then they started their pod play by hosting Incline and were beaten 63-55 to continue their streak of three straight loses. They are 3-4 on the season.

Spring Creek is 1-2 this season and was beaten by Jerome Idaho last week by the score 56-42.

After a 2-0 start Fallon has dropped five straight and are 2-5 on the season. Lovelock bet them to start off last week 58-44 then they hosted West Valley and were beaten 65-29. Their final game of last week was against Anderson Idaho and were beaten 71-47. Evett is their leading scorer with 13 points a game.

South Tahoe was idle last week and will play Eldorado of Placerville California this week. The Vikings are 1-5 on the season

In the south Boulder City sits atop the three team pile with a 9-4 record and was 2-1 last week. They were beaten by Basic for a second time then they beat Mountain View 72-47 and beat Shadow Ridge 56-52 in a close one. The Eagles are led by Hafen and Bailey at 10 points per game each. They are in California next week for four games.

Virgin Valley completed last week winning their only game of the week against Vo-tech 65-48. The Bulldogs are 7-6 on the season and won’t return to the court until next year when they host Rancho.

Girls 3A Basketball

Lowry sits atop at 6-0. Duffufferna is their leading scorer at 13 points per game.

Fernley has a 4 game win streak running as they beat Silver stage last week in their only game. The score was 44-19.

Dayton is also riding a 4 game winning streak and was 2-0 last week including an ugly win against Yerington 27-19 and a win against Silver Stage 45-24. Ledezma is their leading scorer with 11 points a game.

Truckee is 1-1 and was idle last week. They play Wooster this week the team they beat a week ago by 18.

Fallon is 2-3 and split the two games last week a 72-33 loss to the Mustangs of Lovelock and a 33-32 win against Bishop California. Cordes and Rechel led the Green Wave in scoring with 8 points apiece.

Elko lost to Jerome Idaho 53-36 and to Twin Falls Idaho 54-46. They are 2-4 this season.

South Tahoe has 4 straight losses and played two games last week which were not reported. Their record was 2-4.

Spring Creek is an unbelievable 1-5. The defending state champion has been the best team in the 3A for several years and are now on a 4 game losing streak. They lost to Twin Falls 54-44 and to Jerome 56-53.

Sparks has yet to win a game and sits at 0-3 and won’t play until next year. They were idle last week.
