Moapa Valley Progress

Southern IA – Sunrise

Virgin Valley at Sunrise Mtn.
The Bulldogs from Virgin Valley lost to Sunrise Mountain last Thursday night. It was a week after Moapa Valley blew out the Miners that Virgin Valley was hoping to come away with the win and a share of first place in the Sunrise. It didn’t go so well.
Virgin Valley must now go through the toughest part of their schedule. They have to beat Boulder City and at least one of the other three: Desert Pines, Moapa Valley or Chaparral if they want a shot to make the playoffs.

At Sunrise Mountain the Bulldogs scored in the final minute to tie the game at 14-14 and send it into overtime.
Sunrise Mountain was leading the Dawgs 14-7 with under two minutes to play in the game when, instead of keeping the ball on the ground to run off time, they put it in the air. That’s when Josh Bishop picked off the pass and returned it to the Miners 33 yard line with 1:25 to play. Virgin Valley’s first pass resulted in a sack, then quarterback Hogan Fowles found Jarron Linge for 28 yards followed by a pass to Nick Cox for an 18 yard touchdown. With the point-after the score was tied with 36 seconds remaining in the contest. The Miners knelt on it sending it into overtime.

Virgin Valley scored first when Fowles ran it in from a yard out. The extra point gave them a 21-14 lead. Sunrise Mountain then scored when Xavier Wright caught the touchdown pass to close the gap to 21-20.
Sunrise chose to go for two points and converted it when Pytrysson caught the ball for the win. Virgin Valley had 348 total yards of offense while holding the Miners to 296. With the win the Miners are 1-2 in league play while Virgin Valley drops to 1-1 in league play.

Chaparral at Del Sol.
This game wasn’t even a contest as the Cowboys scored three touchdowns in the first quarter, then three more times in the second quarter, for a 42-0 lead by half time. The Cowboys had 347 yards of total offense while holding the Dragons to just 142 yards. Ninety-nine yards were from passing for the Cowboys as they improve the league record to 2-1 in the Sunrise.
Del Sol comes to Moapa Valley this Friday night for homecoming. Chaparral travels to Rancho this Friday night.

Boulder City at Desert Pines
The Desert Pines Jaguars devoured the Eagles 64-0. The Jaguars racked up 359 yards in the game while holding the Eagles to a grand total of 38 yards.
Needless to say the second half was played with a running clock as the Jaguar ran just 22 plays on offense for the game.
Boulder City is 0-2 in league play with Sunrise Mountain coming to town this Friday night. Desert Pines remains undefeated at 3-0 in league play with a trip to Mesquite planned for this week.

Mojave drops to 2-1 in league play and will travel to Spring Valley this week.

Cheyenne at Sierra Vista.
Cheyenne destroyed Sierra Vista 50-6. A week after Faith Lutheran handily beat Cheyenne the Desert Shields rebounded by dominating offensively with 437 yards of total offense while holding Sierra Vista to 109 yards of total offense.

Truckee at Elko
This was a game between two 2-1 teams with the winner taking sole possession of fourth place which is the final qualifying spot for the northern playoffs. Elko came away with a 30-21 win at home to claim it.
Elko was the first to score, after a punt which hit a Truckee player then recovered by the Indians gave the Tribe the ball at the Truckee 33.
Puentes found Nick Smiley in the end zone for the touchdown and a 7-0 lead.
Elko scored again after their own fumble was picked up in the backfield by Puentes where he found a seam and ran it in from just inside the five yard line 14-0.

Truckee got on the board late in the first half when runningback Cole Harrity finished the drive with a 15 yard run to cut the Indians lead to a touchdown. Truckee regained possession after holding the Indians to punt with 2:11 to play in the half. The effort failed when a long pass was picked off at the 2 yard line.
