Fishing The Overton Arm (March 8, 2017)

By LOREN BROOKS

At 6:35 pm on Friday, March 3, Pat wrote a note saying it was a beautiful day on the Overton Arm. Pat said she was without her camera on this occasion. They observed lots of burros, a coyote, and all kinds of ducks and other birds on the lake.

She and Stan caught 10 stripers and one small mouth Bass. Their 3 largest Stripers weighed in at 1.13 lbs;2.8 lbs; and 2.7 pounds.
There were lots of people on the lake, including Tom, his wife RuthAnn, who landed 5 nice striper trolling; Bryce and his grandson who caught two stripers.

Bud, Junior and Walt, trolled two days in a row and caught 14 one day and 13 the next. Junior had the lucky rod. According to Bud, Junior was never satisfied with any particular lure and changed lures often, which led to the most fish caught in Bud’s boat.

The photo of Lanny Waite in last weeks Progress, holding that “Walleye” has been the talk of the town. Matt, the manager of Ace Hardware, said he was an eyewitness to that catch.
We are all waiting for the next report, backed up with a photo, of another Walleye. If you have not tasted fried Walleye, you are missing out on one of the best tasting fish in the West.

My big story this week comes from Harold and Kent, bank fishermen, who live at the Fun & Sun Trailer Park. These two anglers have had some exciting times fishing from the bank at Stewarts Point. In fact I asked Harold to show me the finger they were fishing from. Harold put out a green umbrella so we could spot him from our boat the next day.

Harold and Kent are bringing in some nice stripers and channel catfish, using spinning rods. They claim an anchovy is the answer, with a little patience. They both used a sliding sinker and a # 2 straight shank hook, with a half an anchovy.
Harold’s wife had the camera when he caught two fish at the same time. The catfish weighed 3.5 pounds and the striper was 17 inches long.

Tom Gilbert said he was cleaning their fish at the Echo cleaning table when this angler came up with two nice sized stripers he caught from the shore in Echo Bay. I was told there is a 19 inch carcass on the fence post at Echo’s campground of a nice striper. This report is not complete, since there are lots of people on the Overton Arm, and most of the boats are bringing in some nice fish.

Well as I’ve said before, keep those lines in the water, the waters of life.
