The Moapa Valley High School softball team started last week in Pahrump against the Trojans. They were beaten in an extra inning, 10-9.
The final run was scored when Pahrump’s Jackie Stobbe singled in the game winner in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Pirates scored 2 runs in the first inning, only to watch as the Trojans came back and took the lead in the bottom of the first, 3-2.
Moapa Valley scored two more in the top of the second for a 1 run lead. But the Trojans tied the game in the bottom of the second at 4-4.
Pahrump Valley would score 5 runs in the third inning. The Pirates scored 2 more in the fourth and then tied the game in the top of the sixth scoring 3 runs.
Sophomore Lainey Cornwall led the Pirates with 3 hits in the game including a stolen base and 2RBI’s. Daesha Stasny, a senior, also had 2 hits and a couple of RBI’s. As pitcher, she allowed 9 runs, walking 6 and striking out one. She allowed four hits in the game.
Emilie Barazza, sophomore, pitched the final three innings, allowing 3 hits and the game winner.
The Pirates stranded 8 runners on base finishing with 13 hits and 4 errors for the game. Pahrump Valley had just nine hits while making 7 errors.
On Thursday the Pirates hosted Mojave and were beaten 10-6. Mojave scored 1 run in the first, 4 runs in the second, and 2 runs in the third for a 7-0 lead. The Pirates scored 3 runs in the bottom of the third and a single run in the bottom of the fourth, trailing 7-4.
The Trojans finished their scoring in the top of the fifth with 3 more runs, then held the Pirates to a run in the fifth and seventh innings.
Sierra Harding led the team with 2 hits, a double and a triple.
Stastny finished with the loss pitching just 2.1 inning. Essence McRee hit a homerun and 2 RBI’s for Mojave. Emilee Milton had a double and Ariel Wilson had a triple.
The Pirates travelled to St George on Friday and Saturday and were beaten by Millard of Fillmore Utah, 11-7. Moapa beat Hillcrest Utah, 17-11; and East of Salt Lake, 13-11.
This week the host Cheyenne on Wednesday and travel to Alamo on Thursday.
