New 5A For The NIAA
The NIAA will expand to five leagues, starting a new 5A with the elite teams in the south. The 4A will be comprised of Las Vegas schools. The 3A will consist of the old 3A including Moapa Valley, Virgin Valley, Boulder City, Pahrump Valley and schools who tally the lowest scores in the rubric.
The Northern 4A schools will choose if they want to join the 4A or 5A next January. This will all take effect starting the 2018-19 school year.
Tragedy in Truckee
In a sad note. Former Truckee head football coach, Bob Schaffer was killed in a head-on collision last Saturday night. In his eighteen years as Truckee head coach he won 170 games which ranks him third in total wins in the NIAA. His teams won 9 state championships and played in 12 championship games. Truckee won four consecutive state championships from 2009 through 2013.
His wife Lisa and 22-year-old son Patrick were also in the accident and received injuries.
The Truckee community is hurting as Schaffer was an influential member of the school and community as a teacher, coach and athletic director. He will be sorely missed by Truckee and all who knew him.
