The Moapa Valley High School Tennis teams were tied for first place with Boulder City last week. When the week finished both Pirate teams were in second place after tough losses to the Eagles.
On Tuesday, The Pirates hosted Chaparral and came away with a 15-3 win. On the boys team, Adam Smedley won two matches in singles while Grady Call and Yadon Witsken were undefeated in doubles with a 2-0 record. Jake Leavitt and Colby May were also undefeated in doubles play with a 3-0 record.
In the second game of the week, Moapa Valley shut out Del Sol 18-0 as Chase Hadley finished 3-0 in singles and Slade Graham and Gavin Hadley finished 3-0. Moapa Valley also won several forfeits.
On Friday, in a match where the winner would have sole possession of first place, Boulder City showed why they are a favorite for the state title. The Eagles shut out the Pirates 18-0.
The girls ended up in the same position: tied with Boulder City. The girls also started the week at home against Chaparral and came away with a 14-4 win. Jurnie Crawford finished 3-0.
Wednesday the Pirates travelled to Del Sol and came away with a 15-3 win as Crawford finished 3-0. Morgan Aikele and Lilian Leavitt finished 3-0 in doubles play.
On Friday against Boulder City the Pirates did not fare very well. They were beaten by the Eagles 14-4.
Moapa Valley has two weeks left in the regular season with three matches to play. Monday they host Virgin Valley in the lone match of the week. Next week they host Boulder City on Monday then Vo-Tech on Wednesday, which will be senior night. Go Pirates!
