Moapa Valley Progress
The Moapa Valley High School Boys Soccer team had just one game on the calendar for the week last week, but it was a big one. The Pirates traveled to Mesquite for a meeting with the Bulldogs.
In the first half, both sides fought back and forth, with neither side giving way. At the halftime intermission, both sides remained knotted at a 0-0 tie.
For much of the second half, the story remained the same. But about midway through the second half, a slip up on the defensive end gave an opportunity to the Bulldogs to score. Christian Martinez got through on an assist by Jesus Navarro to put Virgin Valley up 1-0. The Pirates weren’t able to find an equalizer in the final minutes and it would be the Bulldogs who left their home field with the narrow victory.
“For about sixty minutes, I felt like we were getting better opportunities,” said Pirate coach Jared Bushman. “You could see the players kind of let down a little bit when Virgin Valley finally got their goal.”
But Bushman was satisfied overall with his team’s production. “I think defensively we were great the whole game,” he said..
The Pirates’ next two games come against Del Sol and a road rivalry test against Boulder City. The Pirates look to build on their defense and find the offensive spark that might turn the season in a new direction.
