“It is easier to build strong children than to fix broken adults,” said Frederick Douglas an African-American Social Reformer in the 1800s.
It is with that wisdom in mind that Kimberly Pfeiffer has studied and taught the benefits that can be obtained from Yoga for the very young.

A series of yoga classes for kids are being offered by Pfeiffer each month at the Sacred Space Wellness Center in downtown Overton. These classes are designed for children ages 3-12. Kids are taught various yoga poses, the value of meditation, yoga songs and games and more.

Pfeiffer was born in California, received an Assoc. Teaching Certificate from Fullerton College and was a Behavioral Therapist for Children with Autism in the Ocean View School District in Huntington Beach, California. She obtained an RYT200 certification in Hatha-Yoga and a certification in Mini-Yogi’s (children).

Pfeiffer said that she has become dedicated to helping young children learn the life skills of self-regulation.
She recently moved to Mesquite and recently has joined with Kelly Bledsoe in teaching Yoga at the Sacred Space Wellness Center. Adult classes are instructed daily and are taught by Bledsoe and Christina Geist. The children’s classes are taught on the third Saturday of each month at 10 A.M.. Each class lasts for about 90 minutes.

At a recent class I spoke with a couple of young yogis – 4 year old Austyn and 5 years old Paden Woodford. Paden said he liked it so much. He especially liked the Hulk Poses he was learning. Austyn also likes the course a lot. . .because it is her favorite! She likes the exercises and songs and especially enjoys the Tree Pose.

The cost for the class is $8.00 – with $4.00 additional for each sibling. Class member have an opportunity to learn life skills in self-regulation. Neither an appointment nor pre-registration is necessary. Children may just show up at class time at the Wellness Center at 263 S. Moapa Valley Blvd.

The next class will be held on March 17 at 10 am.
