Color run 5K Fundraiser To Be Held Saturday

Is running in a “color run” on your bucket list? If so, you can check it off this weekend—and you won’t even have to leave the Moapa Valley to do it!

The LDS Overton 4th Ward Young Women’s organization is hosting a color run event at the Clark County Fairgrounds on Saturday, March 24. The 5K run is open to people of all ages. And while the name of the event may imply otherwise, walkers are welcome, as well as runners.

A color run is an untimed event that has no winners or prizes, but runners are showered with colored powder, made of food-grade corn starch, at stations along the run. That is sure to be fun for everyone involved.
More than 90 individuals have signed up so far, but the organizers are hopeful that even more participants will sign up on the day of the event.

The course will begin at the entrance to the fairgrounds and follow the walking path along Heyer St., W. Gubler Ave., and N. Lyman St. before ending back at the fairgrounds. An alternative course will also be set up inside of the fairgrounds for elementary school-aged runners, whose participation in the 5k will add miles to the Grant M. Bowler Elementary School’s Hundred Mile Club.

This event will act as not only a fun community event, but also as a fundraiser for the young women organization. The proceeds from the race will help pay expenses for the girls at an annual Girls Camp this summer.

The group’s past years’ fundraisers have usually been a combination of car washes and bake sales. So, why turn to a color run now?
“It was something different,” said event organizer Kristy Jackson. “I had never heard of someone doing it out here, and we have a lot of runners, so I hope we get a good turnout!”

The race will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, but participants are asked to show up at 8:00. The price is $20.00 for adults, $10 for students, $6 for elementary schoolers. The experience is free for participants four years old or younger. Organizers recommend that participants wear sunglasses and a white shirt.

Let the fun begin!
