Pirate Girls Take 1st Place In Bushman Invitational

The Moapa Valley High School Track and Field teams hosted the Grant Bushman invitational on Friday last week.

The Pirate girls team won the girls title in the meet by scoring 137 points, 25 points in front of 2nd place White Pine who scored 112 points. Mojave placed third with 86.5 points. Virgin Valley was fourth with 81.5. Boulder City was fifth with 54.5 and Pahrump Valley sixth with 54 points.

Several Pirate athletes got individual placing in their event. Alexis Schraft placed fifth in the 400 meters. Ashlyn Western placed second in the 800-meter and 1600 meter events, with Andi Hilstead placing sixth in the 1600. Shelby Olsen placed third in the 3200-meter run with McKinley Bledsoe finishing eighth.

Natalie Mills finished third in the 100-meter hurdles while Andrea Mogren finished fifth. Mills also won the 300-meter hurdles with Skotlyn Hill finishing second and Kayla Walters finishing sixth. Mariah Mendoza placed fifth in the shotput and third in the discus while Madison Whitney placed fifth in the discus. Hanna Watson won the girls pole vault with a new school record in the event of nine feet three inches.

Faith Witter placed third. Watson finished fifth in the long jump with Mogren who finished seventh. Mogren finished third in the triple jump.

The 4X400 relay team placed first with a time of 4:15.88, just seven tenths from the school record. Bailey Bunker, Alexis Schraft, Ashlyn Western and Natalie Mills were on that team.

In the boys’ meet Moapa Valley finished in fifth place with 46 points. Mojave won the meet with 130 points while Desert Pines scored 123, Pahrump Valley had 70.5, White Pine 49.5 and Lincoln County 46. Virgin Valley finished in eleventh place with 24 points. Boulder City finished with 34 points in eighth place.

Grady Call finished in fifth place in the 800-meter run. Bryton Dorsey finished eighth in the 1600 meters. Preston Humes finished sixth in the 3200 meters while Jerrick Stastny finished eighth.
Josh Leavitt placed fifth in the discus and Josh Lee won the pole vault, Yadon Witsken finished third and Dillion Clove fifth. Tristan Lehman place seventh in the long jump.

Moapa Valley will host the regional meet this weekend. Friday will start at 2:30 PM and Saturday at 9am.
