MVHS Sports Brief (Oct. 20, 2010)

Moapa Valley Progress

Lady Pirate’s soccer played two games last week. Moapa was shutout each time. First the crusaders of Faith Lutheran scored 9 goals in their victory over Moapa. Faiths Dani Theraldson scored three goals in the match. Taylor Young and Kendall Pori each scored two goals.

In the second game the Pirates traveled to Pahrump where Trojan, Janet Garcia scored four goals and dished out two assists.

In Moapa Boy’s Soccer, the Pirates split two games. The Pirates first beat the Adelson School Lyons 5-3 in Las Vegas. Borha Mateos scored a hat trick with three goals in the match. Dylan Smith and Cole Witter scored the other two.

In the second game of the week, Chaparral shut out Moapa 2-0 Antonio Sandoval and Mike Lopez scored one goal each in the Cowboy’s win.

The Lady Pirate Volleyball Team traveled twice to Las Vegas last week. First, to Foothill High School, where the Pirates were beaten soundly in three games, 10-25, 14-25, and 13-25. The second match of the week Moapa traveled to Legacy and were beaten three games to one, 21-25, 25-12, 26-25 then 20-25.

Shelby Gray had four blocks and a couple of kills. Summer Owens had eight kills. Ashley Noto had seven kills. Next week is homecoming week versus Boulder City.

On Monday, October 11 at the Boulder City Municipal Golf course the MVHS Girl’s Golf team competed in the Southern League Championship where they finished third shooting a 552 total. Boulder City won the title shooting 358. Virgin Valley finished second, shooting 431.

Lady Pirates Haley Causey, who shot 111 and Haley Neilson, who shot a 122 qualified for the state tournament October 18-19 at Elko’s Ruby ridge golf course. Boulder City’s full team qualified as well as three girls from Virgin Valley. Boulder City will be competing for a team title while the other competitors from the south shoot for the individual title.

Ten total runners from the south qualify. Other Lady Pirates were Kalene Gongos who shot a 136 and Molly Markenstein who shot a 183.
