Moapa Valley Progress
It was a beautiful morning on Saturday, March 5, when the Moapa Valley High School Baseball and Softball teams held an annual camp to instruct and teach the basics of their sport to younger players who have an interest in the sports. Each member of the Varsity teams participated in teaching the basics of the game.
Softball had five young ladies who participated in the camp. They worked at training stations as they rotated station to station learning each skill. Pitching, hitting, and running the bases were just some of the skills they learned.
When the station work was finished they scrimmaged with the high school team where they used the experiences learned and put them to use in game situations.
Baseball had ten young men who participated in the camp. Training stations were also used here.
The afternoon festivities included the annual alumni Baseball games as the Moapa Valley Varsity played former Moapa Valley players. These games give the varsity team a good scrimmage or a look at who can do what, where before the season starts.
In the first game the alumni won 9-5. The varsity team won game two 5-4.
“I’m excited for this season,” said head coach Justin Williams. “We’ve got a bunch of hard working guys willing to put in the work.”
Team previews will be in next week’s paper.
